Imperial Steel Supports a Safe Farming Community

Ag-Safety-Week-2017-500x475Imperial Steel has always been a proud supporter of Canadian farming families, and that’s why we support Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW).

Organized by the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), CASW is a public awareness campaign focusing on the importance of farm safety. The aim is to empower producer families with the information they need to help keep kids, adults and seniors safe on the farm or ranch. CASW takes places every year during the third week of March and in 2017, it is set for the week of March 12th to 18th.

This year, we are appealing to adults – especially those who are busy juggling family, farm and work, to use safe farming methods.

Even adults need help sometimes, and that’s why you should never stop learning. Check out the resources available to you – including new “Farm Talks” info and “Toolbox Talks”, which feature topics such as Operating Portable Augers, Preparing Grain Bins for Harvest, Transporting Oversized Loads, plus a new women’s health series – at agsafetyweek.ca.

Imperial Steel – Dates of 2016 Holiday Closure

All departments at Imperial Steel, including our office and manufacturing services departments, as well as shipping & receiving, will be closed effective December 23rd, 2016 so that our staff can enjoy the holiday season with their families.

Value Added Products – Large Diameter Air Filtration

At Imperial Steel, we work with our clients to determine exactly what products will support their application requirements. We enjoy working with our customers to manufacture parts that are closer to finished parts versus longer tubing lengths that they have to manipulate themselves to make the specific parts they need.

Air filtration is a very important aspect to the processes of many industries such as construction, agriculture, marine, mining, automotive exhaust, and companies that specialize in heating/cooling.

The benefits of large diameter air filtration will vary depending upon the industry. Overall, larger air filtration ranging from 7” to 12” will guarantee more filtration efficiency and higher airflow.

Value Added Products – Air Grain Vacuum

At Imperial Steel, we have extensive experience in the agricultural industry, and we have been a supplier to the manufacturers of grain augers for many years.

A grain auger is an agricultural screw conveyor with a long metal tube approximately 8 to 13 inches in diameter with an enclosed metal auger that is used to raise and transport grain from the ground to the top of the grain bins or to load trucks from the grain bin. Enter air grain vacuums.

An air grain vacuum is a high capacity air fan that creates a vacuum for picking up and moving grain, and is designed to move grain from grain storage facilities onto grain transport vehicles.

The latest generation of grain vacs delivers capacities exceeding 10,000 bushels per hour, and many farmers run whole bins through a grain vac instead of turning to an auger. According to manufacturer reports, both fan-type and pneumatic-type grain vacs are now running through a million bushels without requiring major maintenance.

Venturing Into New Markets – Centre Pivot Irrigation

Centre pivot irrigation has become a staple of modern-day agriculture and is now almost as prevalent as tractors in our open fields.

center-pivot-irrigationCenter pivot irrigation was invented in 1940 by visionary Frank Zybach. In 1948, Zybach built the first model, mounted on metal skids with two towers connected by wires that worked two-way water control valves, and had a sprinkler pipe hanging about two feet from the ground. In 1949, he applied for a patent and received one in 1952 for the “Zybach Self Propelled Sprinkling Irrigation Apparatus”.

People didn’t latch on to the idea right away, but by June 1976, Scientific American magazine called centre pivot irrigation systems “perhaps the most significant mechanical innovation in agriculture since the replacement of draft animals by the tractor” and the Irrigation Association says it is “without a doubt the greatest advancement in agriculture since the McCormick reaper”; so recognition did eventually come to pass.

Fast forward to the present and Imperial Steel is proud to be a tubing manufacturer and distributor for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) companies wanting to deliver even more specialized centre pivot irrigation systems.

Center pivot systems require different specs than what we have produced historically. We love to conceive of new uses for our tubing and collaborate with our clients to deliver value added products that meet their needs and solve their problems.
